Checking in with the Tarot – what do I need to do for myself today?

As I’m writing this, I am so tired.

Happy, but tired.

October is GO time for Tarot readers. Private clients, events, classes…

And, I’ve been really busy officiating lovely Autumn weddings.

It’s Monday. I worked all weekend, teaching Tarot and marrying some lovely people.

I’m sitting here at the computer, determined to write something, but I’m too tired to be eloquent.

I know I need to rest and replenish, but I’m stubborn.

So, I’m going to turn to my cards for some no-nonsense guidance on what I need to do for myself, because I don’t seem to have the common sense to see it or do it on my own.

If you’re running yourself ragged as well, I recommend giving this little spread a try:

Tarot spread to replenish yourself

Here’s what came up for me:

1. What do I need to see to give myself permission to rest? Five of Wands
2 What can I do today that will replenish my energy? The Tower
3. What can I do today that will bring me joy? The Magician

1. What do I need to see to give myself permission to rest? Five of Wands

This card tells me that I am not going to be able to accomplish anything significant or complicated today. It’s just not going to come together. So, why fight it? It will just be a waste of energy and deplete me further.

2 What can I do today that will replenish my energy? The Tower

That Tower just makes me laugh. First of all, I think I need to let go of the idea that the world will come tumbling down around me if I take a half a day off. Also, I need to realize that something about my business structure isn’t sound, I can’t be running around all the time, that isn’t sustainable.

Just yesterday I was talking about how so much of what I do involves holding space for others, being the calm rock in emotional situations. The Tower is telling me that I can blow that up today. I don’t have to hold space for others, I can release and experience my own emotions fully, and that will be replenishing. Maybe I need to run around and yell, cry, sing and dance, let it all out.

And on a practical note, I need to get out of the house (that Tower) and get some fresh air.

3. What can I do today that will bring me joy? The Magician

Don’t you love seeing this card here? Sometimes my cards are cheeky and have a sense of humor. The Magician has all the Tarot suits on his table, ready to be used. So, something that would bring me joy today is playing with my Tarot cards. I think I’ll look through some of my new decks, ones I haven’t had a chance to use yet, and just have some fun with them.

Also, the Magician speaks to me of focus and force of will, discipline. That feels very different than the chaotic energy we just saw in that Five of Wands. So, it will bring me joy to focus on one thing at a time today, to be present in the moment with each activity, rather than trying to do a million things at once.

Give this spread a try, and please post your spreads and interpretations in the comments. And, be kind to yourself today. We all need to pause, take a breath, and do what feeds our bodies and souls every once in a while. Or even better, on a regular basis.

Off I go to make some magic!
