Make your morning brighter with this simple Tarot practice

How do you feel when you wake up in the morning? Generally speaking, perhaps on a regular work day. Do you leap out of bed, feeling fired up and ready to take on the world? Does it take you a while to leave the world of dreams and be fully present and awake? Do you sigh and wish for a few more hours of sleep? Do you start to feel anxious about the day ahead right from the get go?

Willow is a champion at sleeping, she is my inspiration

I am an over thinker, and a worrier, and often first thing in the morning my mind goes immediately to all the things I have to do on that particular day, sorting through them, getting anxious about getting everything done.

Can you relate?

I know that this isn’t a good way to start the day. I want to honour each day I have been given, to express gratitude for it, and make the most of it.

To slow myself down, and to be present for the day ahead, I turn to my cards.

When I pull my cards of the day, I ask these questions:

  • How can I make the most of today?
  • What do I most need to see right now?

Then, I ground myself, shuffle, and pull those cards.

I have a look at each card, with an open mind, without immediately going to the traditional meaning or analyzing the symbols. I just let it speak to me, and tell me what I need to know.

If I have time, I’ll do a meditation with the cards, or have a little conversation with a figure on the card.

It sounds simple, and it is.

Simple, but powerful.

If you find yourself frazzled in the morning, or lacking confidence in yourself, or dreading the tasks ahead, stop. Take a breath. Pull a card and let it give you some perspective and inspire you.

Here are two examples, cards that I pulled for myself.

Three and two of Wands tarot Cards

From the Albano-Waite Tarot Deck, US Games

How can I make the most of today: Three of Wands. Look at the bigger picture rather than getting bogged down by small tasks. Work on that plan that is going to build my empire and start implementing it. Expand my perspective of myself and what I am capable of. My ships are coming in, trust in my abilities and power. Get excited!

What do I most need to see right now: Two of Wands. Isn’t that funny, I shuffled those cards well, and yet here we have a recurring theme and two quite similar cards. This card is urging me to use the resources that I have, don’t waste that world that I am holding in my hand. And all of these Wands…stop thinking so much, get excited and take action. Also, do you see how the figure on the Two of Wands is trying to hand that world to the person on the Three of Wands, but they aren’t seeing it? Today I’ll be open to assistance and gifts from others, rather than trying to do everything on my own.

It is amazing, I feel so much better, more energized and inspired than I did before I sat down to write this piece.

I want you to start each day with a feeling of possibility, peace and joy as well. Let the cards remind you that we are all here to be happy, to have joyful experiences, and to make the most of our time on this earth. Give this simple practice a try for the next five days (at least) and let me know what unfolds.

This is why I love the Tarot, and I love reading for myself and my clients. The cards always offer inspiration, practical guidance, perspective and often times a really good sense of humour. Make the Tarot a part of your daily life, and expect to be transformed!
