Did you know that you have your own, personal Tarot Year card? You calculate it with your day and month of birth, and it changes from year to year.
Your Year Card gives you insight into the opportunities and challenges around you each year: what to expect, the highs and lows, the learning experiences, the discoveries, the triumphs, and how to ride the energy to your best advantage.
According to the Tarot, 2026 is a Hanged Man year for me.
Believe it or not, I have a lot of time for this unconventional character, and I welcome the energy of this card into my 2026.
The appearance of the Hanged Man (often referred to as the Hanging One and the Hanged One) gives me a powerful heads-up – I know that this year will bring a significant energy shift. You see, 2025 was my Justice year. And before that, 2024 was ruled by the Wheel of Fortune.
In 2024, the Wheel of Fortune presented limited time opportunities, fast-paced action, and luck. I knew I had to seize the moment – so I let the Wheel spin me into a whirlwind of book writing, throwing my regular schedule out the window.
In 2025, my Justice year brought results – the Unifying Consciousness Tarot and my book, Talismans & Tarot, are now out in the world, and I know I must take responsibility for my words and promote my work. My decisions the year were based on facts, research, and pros vs cons, keeping me grounded as my emotions went on a rollercoaster ride as a newly published author.
2026 will be a Hanged Man year for me, which feels like an exhale and a relief. Even though I have ideas for new writing projects, this card invites me to surrender, relax, and enjoy what I’ve already created. The absolutely right idea will reveal itself if I look at the world and myself in a different way. After the ups and downs of the Wheel and the demands of Justice, the Hanged Man offers peace of mind and a break from hustling and striving.

HOW TO Calculate your Year Tarot Card (a la Mary K. Greer)
I use the wonderful Mary K. Greer’s method to calculate my Year Card (which can be found in her books, Tarot for Yourself and Who Are You in the Tarot). You add the month and day of your birth to the current year, and the resulting number corresponds with a Major Arcana card. Always keep the highest number under 23. Add the digits together to reduce if it’s above 22. (In this case, The Fool corresponds with 22.).
For example, my birthday, June 5, plus the new year, 2026, equals TWELVE, which corresponds with the Hanged Man.
I prefer to calculate my Year Card starting from January 1, rather than on my birthday (I know, this is a big debate in the Tarot community).
I enjoy the universal ceremony of marking the start of a new year, as well as the idea of a whole calendar year ahead. The annual changing nature of your Year Card differentiates it from your unchanging astrological, Chinese zodiac, and Mayan zodiac signs, which makes it an interesting combination of internal and external forces at play in your life for this fixed period of time.
That being said, if your birthday is late in the year, you may feel the energy shift intensify as you approach it.
Once you determine your year card, get to know it, let it become a close friend and advisor.
Meditate on the image. Imagine a conversation you would have with the figure on the card. Journal about the strengths that you see in the cards, the challenges, what you like about it, and what you don’t. Look it up in your favorite Tarot reference books and see what other people have to say about it.
Do a Tarot spread asking to gain insight into the card and the lessons it offers (click here for my example).
Call upon the image when you need strength, inspiration, and guidance. See it as your own guardian angel for the year. Know that you have a powerful ally and resource available to you.
So, over to you! What’s YOUR Tarot Year Card for 2026?
How do you feel about it?
