Connecting with crystals, talismans and other mysterious objects with Tarot

Have you ever felt compelled to buy a specific item, perhaps a piece of jewelry with a symbol on it, clothing with a particular pattern, or a certain crystal or statuette, and you can’t explain why?

This goes beyond the temptation of the impulse buys they put close to the check-out at Winners, Marshalls, Sephora or similar. I’m talking about that feeling of connection, that something is meant for you, that you simply must have it, no question. But you don’t know why.

This happens to me all the time. I’ve (pretty much) stopped buying anything that doesn’t give me that feeling. Of course, we are outside of the mundane here, it is unusual for me to feel a cosmic connection with dish soap or toothpaste or other domestic shopping (and yet I still need them).

So, when these special items come into our lives, whether we buy them, or we find them, or they are given to us, we naturally want to find out more about them. We want to know why they came into our lives, what their message may be, and what their purpose is.

First of all, you can research the significance, provenance, and history of the item, or the properties if you are working with a crystal. This will certainly lead you to some fascinating places.

And if you want to go deeper, go inward, you can turn to your Tarot deck for some answers.

When such an item comes my way, I sit down with it, and my Tarot deck, and pull some cards to help me to connect and find out what might be going on here.

I encourage you to come up with your own questions, but here are some that I suggest:

Why did this item come into my life?

What is the message that it has for me?

How can this item support me?

What does this item want me to know about myself?

What can working with this item help me to do?

What does this item invite me to do? What is the next action step?

Here is an example. Recently at the Readers Studio Divination Day, I had the pleasure of taking a crystal ball scrying class with the wonderful Heatherleigh Navarre.

I love crystals, so its not THAT mysterious, but I was so immediately drawn to the crystal ball that Heatherleigh loaned to me for the workshop. I imprinted on it right away, and I knew that it was meant for me. I’ve never really done any serious crystal ball scrying, so I wasn’t sure why I was feeling this so strongly. I felt really protective, I had to have it, so of course I purchased it after the class.

When I brought it home, I decided get out my trusty cards and try to understand what is going on here.

Why did this item come into my life? – Nine of Swords. Yes, that is often me these days. Not sleeping all that well, letting my thoughts run away with me, worrying and still grieving.

What is the message that is has for me? – The Star. How lovely. A message of hope, healing, letting me know that peace of mind and a serene heart are completely possible. Have faith, in myself and the universe.

How can this item support me? – Nine of Pentacles. This one made me laugh. On a literal level, perhaps down the line, crystal ball scrying is something that I can add to my professional services.

What does this item want me to know about myself? – The Devil. That’s a tough one to see. That crystal ball is reflecting my fears back to me, and letting me know that I am letting fear get in the way of what I have to offer the world.

What can working with this item help me to do? – King of Cups. Working with this crystal can bring me some emotional balance and control. Also, it can help me to thrive as an empath, allowing me to feel and connect with others without drowning in their emotion.

What does this item invite me to do? What is the next action step? – Eight of Pentacles. Pretty clear, get down to work! Learn how to use the crystal ball, practice consistently with it, in order to get proficient.

I invite you to give these questions a try, or to come up with your own, whenever some mysterious or compelling object comes into your world.

You may want to dive into the area of past lives, ancestral ties, karmic connections, anything goes. I would keep pulling cards and keep asking questions until I feel that I have gotten what I need, but you can design your own layout, or lay the cards out in the shape of the symbol or object, if that resonates with you.

Give it a try and let me know in the comments what you discover!

Very enjoyable post. Excellent spread, as well.
Perhaps you could incorporate a little crystal ball work into my next tarot reading? I have never seen this done before – you’re so intuitive, you’ll be up and running with this fairly quickly, I’m sure.
